2025 BWF World Championships: Fajar/Rian Qualify For The Round Of 16

JAKARTA Men's doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto played dramatically three games to get tickets for the round of 16 of the 2025 BWF World Championships or the 2025 BWF World Championships.

They came from the missed first game against Hong Kong representative Hung Kugui Chun/Lui Chun Wai, and locked the win with a score of 14-21, 21-11, 22-20 on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

"The opponent played very confident without a burden and several attacks from the opponent we cannot return," Fajar said in a statement received.

Fajar/Rian, who got an empty draw in the first half, were the first representatives of Indonesia to secure a ticket to the round of 16.

In the round of 16, Fajar/Rian will face representatives of Japan, Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi. On paper, Fajar/Rian won a 5-3 win-loss record from the previous eight competitive clashes.

In addition to winning head-to-head, Fajar/Rian have always won in the three most recent clashes against the 2021 world champion pair.

"Certainly in the future, we have to fight against anyone and should not be careless. I hope that after a crucial victory, we can play even better," said Fajar.

This is Fajar/Rian's first match after their last appearance together at the Indonesia Open 2025 last July.

After the Super 1000 BWF level tournament, Rian was sidelined because of family affairs. Fajar was then paired with Muhammad Shohibul Fikri.

The Fajar/Fikri duet managed to produce the title of the China Open 2025. Prior to that, Fajar/Fikri also played at the Japan Open 2025, where their journey ran aground in the quarter-finals.

"This is the first match (with Fajar) after the last one at the Indonesia Open 2025. So, the touch and atmosphere of the match still haven't been able to," said Rian.
