2025 BWF World Championships: Jonathan Pijaki Second Round

JAKARTA Jonathan Christie only encountered a few obstacles in the match against Matthias Kicklitz from Germany to reach the second round of the 2025 Badminton World Championships (BWF World Championships 2025).

The 2018 Asian Games gold medalist took 31 minutes to close the match with a score of 21-15 and 21-5 at the Adidas Arena, Paris, France, on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, afternoon WIB.

Jonathan started the first game with three points, which was immediately equalized by the opponent. The pursuit of numbers occurred and Jonathan was then two points ahead at the interval.

Kicklitz then equalized the score to 13-13 before Jonathan responded with five points to lead 18-13. After that, Jonathan did not give his opponent a chance to catch up again.

In the second game, Kicklitz managed to steal the first point and Jonathan hit back with four points. Jonathan's dominance after that was really difficult to block Kicklitz.

Jonathan is the first Indonesian men's singles to advance to the second round of the three representatives who took part there. Indonesia hopes to add tickets to Alwi Farhan and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting's hands.

Previously, tickets for the second half were also secured by mixed doubles Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari, who won against Lu Ming Che/Hung En Tzu from China Taipei, with scores 14-21, 21-15, and 21-15.

This result made Rinov/Pitha follow in the footsteps of Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu. The couple got an empty draw in the first half.

Rinov/Pitha will next face fifth seed from Hong Kong, Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet. The pair also got an empty draw in the first half.

On the first day, Monday, August 25, 2025, the first ticket to the second half for Indonesia was secured by the women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung. He qualified after beating Petra Maixnerova from the Czech Republic.
