Is It True That Hemorrhoids Are Torturing? Doctor Reveals Real Facts

JAKARTA - Hemorrhoids or hemoroids are one of the most common health problems experienced by the community. Symptoms vary, ranging from urination, pain, bleeding, to lumps appearing in the anus area.

Not infrequently this condition can recur even though it has been treated, especially if the daily lifestyle is not maintained. Unfortunately, there are still many patients who are reluctant to undergo surgery because of the stigma of pain that haunts.

According to dr. Clement Dewanto, Sp.B, General Surgical Specialist from Bethsaida Hospital Gading Serpong, this concern is natural because there used to be many stories of patients who experienced long post-operative pain.

"In fact, with the development of increasingly modern technology and operating techniques, now patients have more choices of therapy that are more comfortable and minimal risk," he explained.

In overcoming hemorrhoids, there are now many modern operating methods that can be adjusted to the patient's condition, some of which:

Laser: Destroying the hemorrhoid tissue with a laser beam. Smaller wounds, minimal bleeding, and faster recovery.

HAL-RAR (Herorhoidal Artery Ligation Recto Anal Repair): Tiing a blood vessel that flows to hemorrhoids while repairing anus tissue. Hemorrhoids shrink without needing to cut, with a lighter pain.

PILA / Rubber Band Ligation: Installation of rubber bracelets at the base of hemorrhoids to stop the flow of blood. The lumps will shrink and escape by themselves. The procedure is fast, without incision, and patients can immediately move.

Operations are also distinguished based on the hemorrhoid level:

Grade 12: usually enough with simple or minimal invasive actions.

Grade 34: can require conventional operations or combinations with modern techniques.

"The more severe the symptoms, the more complex the action is needed. Therefore, the evaluation from a surgeon is very important before determining the choice of surgery," added dr. Clement.

For some patients, hemorrhoids can reappear after surgery. However, this is more influenced by daily habits. With a healthy lifestyle, the results of the operation can last longer and the risk of a smaller recovery.

The recommended lifestyles include:

Drinking 2'3 liters of water per day.

Consumption of high-fiber foods regularly.

Reducing processed foods that have the potential to trigger constipation.

Maintain a healthy defecation habit, for example, not too long in the toilet or playing gadgets during defecation.

According to dr. Clement, there are three main conditions that are indications of immediate surgery: severe pain, difficulty defecating, and bleeding.

"If the symptoms have interfered with the quality of life, don't delay it for consultation. In mild hemorrhoids, simple action can be an option. As for heavy hemorrhoids, more complex operations will be more effective," he said.

With the support of growing medical facilities, patients now have more treatment options. Minimal invasive technology makes procedures shorter, faster recovery, and fewer pain than conventional methods in the past.

"Patients now no longer need to worry, because we provide various operating methods ranging from minimal invasive to conventional. All procedures are carried out with the latest high security standards and technology to provide optimal results," concluded dr. Pitono, Director of Bethsaida Hospital.
