Police Say Protesters Arrested at Mie Gacoan Damaged Public Facilities in Slipi

JAKARTA - The Central Jakarta Metro Police have spoken out regarding the viral news of the arrest of protesters at the Mie Gacoan Restaurant on KS Tubun Street, Petamburan, Tanah Abang District, Central Jakarta.

The Head of Public Relations for the Central Jakarta Metro Police, First Inspector Ruslan, explained that the incident began when a mob vandalized public facilities in the Slipi area, West Jakarta.

After being pushed back, the crowd scattered, fleeing the pursuit of officers. One group entered Mie Gacoan and hid.

"The crowd hid in the Mie Gacoan bathroom," First Inspector Ruslan said when contacted on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

Not only did they hide, but the protesters also disguised themselves as customers at the Mie Gacoan restaurant to deceive the police.

"The crowd disguised themselves as customers," he said.

There was tension during the arrest. The protesters were arrested for vandalizing public facilities.

"The incident at Mie Gacoan occurred when an anarchic mob damaged public facilities in Slipi. When joint officers attempted to control them, they fled," he said.

Previously, the arrest of the teenage protesters was carried out by police officers conducting a sweep on Jalan KS Tubun, Petamburan, Tanah Abang District, Central Jakarta, on Monday evening, August 25, 2025.

The sweeping operation was carried out by several police officers, who entered the "Mie Gacoan" culinary establishment in the area.

The officers chased the protesters, who had been involved in a clash, into the restaurant.

Although the officers successfully apprehended the protesters who were hiding inside the "Mie Gacoan" area, their actions were met with resistance from several employees and local residents visiting Mie Gacoan.

They considered the officers' actions excessive, as they repressively entered the business. The incident actually caused tension between "Mie Gacoan" customers and the police.

"Don't be rude, sir, don't be rude, sir," said the employee.
