Sting Sued Two Of His Colleagues At The Police Due To Royalty Case

JAKARTA - Another feud broke out among The Police personnel who de facto had disbanded but this time the problem was at a different stage. Sting (vocals, bass) was sued by two other personnel, Andy Summers (guitar) and Stewart Copenhagen (drums), for royalty cases.

The lawsuit comes after years of legal disputes between personnel, where Sting is currently being sued in court for "substantial" compensation.

"Lawyers have repeatedly tried to reach settlements outside the court but are deadlocked," said a source, quoted by The Sun, Tuesday, August 26.

"Andy and Stewart decided there was no alternative other than the court, so they pushed the button. They said they owed millions of lost royalties," he continued.

Meanwhile, this legal case is said to have been registered in the London High Court and under a 'contract and general commercial arrangement'. Sting became a defendant with his company, Magnetic Publishing Limited.

Meanwhile, The Police was formed in 1977 and released the debut album Outlandos d'Amour a year later.

After releasing five studio albums, The Police disbanded in the mid-1980s, with Sting continuing his solo career which achieved great success.

Their classic hit song, "Everyone Breath You Take", was the best-selling single in 1983 and the fifth best-selling of the decade. Sting is named the only songwriter on the song with a royalty income report of 550,000 pounds (IDR 12 billion) per year only from that song.

A Sting spokesman denied a lawsuit related to "Everyone Breath You Take", but they did not elaborate on the case.
