UI Admits Negligence Of Pro-Zionist Academic Law Peter Berkowitz, Rector Apologizes
DEPOK - University of Indonesia (UI) acknowledged negligence in inviting an academic from the United States, Peter Berkowitz, to provide a scientific oration in the introduction of the Postgraduate Program academic system (PSA), Saturday, August 23.
UI Chancellor Heri Hermansyah apologized to the public and emphasized that UI did not intend to provide a stage for Israel's pro-ionist views.
"If we knew beforehand, we would definitely delete it from the event," said Heri in his statement, Monday, August 25.
UI pledged to tighten the curation of speakers and affirm full support for the Palestinian independence struggle.

It is known, this incident sparked criticism from students and the public who considered the invitation to be contrary to the basic values of UI and Indonesia's foreign political stance.
The name UI is now in the spotlight after presenting Berkowitz in an official campus event. Students considered this invitation not only to hurt solidarity with Palestine, but also to tarnish UI's academic integrity in the eyes of the public
