Shipwreck In Batam Waters Sinks 60 Tons Of Coconut
The sea accident hit the motorboat KM Senang Hati 68 from Jambi Province to Batam City which carried a cargo of 60 tons of shipwrecked coconut at Golden Fish Port, Batam City, Riau Islands.
"Yes, we have taken steps, including visiting the scene to determine the cause of the sea accident. We have deployed an Inafis team to check the location," said Barelang Police Chief Kombes Zaenal Arifin as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, August 25.
Separately, the Head of the Bulang Police, Iptu Adyanto Syofyan, said that the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday (25/8) at around 03.00 WIB.
The KM Senang Hati 68 ship arrived from Jambi and immediately docked at the Port of Golden Fish Bridge 2 Barelang, Bulang District on Sunday (24/8) night.
At that time the ship carrying three crew members (ABK), including the captain, chose to rest at Golden Fish Port for the first time. The crew tied the ship's rope to one of the stakepoles at the port.
However, due to the receding incident, and the ship's cargo has not been unloaded to the port, the stake is broken and hit the ship, causing a leak in the hull.
"After the ship docked (Sunday-ed), the crew immediately rested in a tidal situation, the next day (Monday-ed) at 03.30 WIB, suddenly the ship experienced a tilted condition which resulted in a former pile of concrete at the pier which had been broken, until the ship sank," said Adyanto.

According to Adyanto, this incident has been handled by the Ditpolairud of the Riau Islands Police.
"It is certain that there were no casualties, the captain and two crew members managed to survive. Only the coconut was washed away by the ocean currents," said Adyanto.
