Dasco Sends DPR Members to Meet with Demonstrators

JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad instructed representatives of DPR members to meet with the demonstrators demonstrating in front of the DPR/MPR building.

This was done because Dasco was at the State Palace to attend and receive a medal of honor from President Prabowo Subianto.

"I happen to be here. We have delegated to our colleagues standing by at the DPR (to receive the protesters)," said Dasco at the State Palace on Monday, August 25.

Dasco claimed that his party respects the public's ability to express their opinions and aspirations through demonstrations, including criticism of DPR members.

"We will welcome them and conduct introspection," Dasco said.

However, the Daily Chair of the Gerindra Party's Central Executive Board (DPP) asked the demonstrators to conduct their actions in an orderly manner and without violence.

"We urge the public and all those expressing their aspirations to the state to do so in an orderly manner, following the applicable regulations," he said.

Based on recent observations, a number of demonstrators were successfully pushed back by joint officers from the Central Jakarta Metro Police, reaching the TVRI station from Jenderal Gatot Subroto Street, in front of the House of Representatives building, Central Jakarta, on Monday, August 25, 2025, at around 1:00 PM WIB.

"Come on, officers, move forward, the masses retreat," said Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Susatyo Purnomo Condro, from atop a command vehicle.

The crowd, pushed back, slowly retreated, occasionally clashing with shield-wielding officers. Furthermore, the crowd also sprayed insults on the flyover wall in front of Spark Senayan.

Several concrete dividers (busway lane dividers) along Jenderal Gatot Subroto Street were damaged by demonstrators during clashes with security forces who forcibly dispersed them on Monday, August 25, 2025.

Furthermore, according to VOI observations, concrete dividers from the busway were also scattered across Jenderal Gatot Subroto Street. In addition to concrete, several pieces of broken stone were also scattered across the road.

These pieces of broken stone had previously been thrown by the crowd at security forces guarding the demonstration.
