Hit By Water Cannon, A Protester in Front of DPR RI Smoked a Cigarette While in Pain

JAKARTA - One of the protesters who was hit by a police water cannon during the demonstration in front of the House of Representatives (DPR/MPR) smoked a cigarette while enduring pain.

The protester, dressed in white with a tattoo on his left arm, was seen sitting and was apparently given a bottle of water by another protester.

"How come, bro? How did this happen?" asked one of the women holding a microphone to the protester.

"Smoke first," said the man in white, enduring the pain. He then took out his cigarette and light it up.

"Where are you from, bro?" asked the woman again.

"From Priok," replied the young man.

The young man explained that he was hit by a police water cannon during the heated protest in front of the DPR/MPR building. He had come to the DPR building with his younger brother.

As of the time of publication, police personnel and tactical vehicles were seen heading towards the Senayan Flyover. The situation appeared tense. The crowd, which had initially crowded in front of the DPR/MPR building, had now been pushed back to the Semanggi Flyover. There has been no official statement from the police on duty.

The situation appears to be slightly chaotic, but remains under control. Previously, it was reported that approximately 1,250 personnel were deployed to secure the demonstration near the DPR/MPR building. These thousands of personnel represent a combination of the National Police, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the Jakarta Regional Government.
