FIFA Matchday Preparation, Indonesian National Team Gathers In Surabaya Early September

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team players are scheduled to gather in Surabaya on September 1, 2025. This is related to the preparation of the Garuda Squad ahead of FIFA Matchday.

The manager of the Indonesian national team, Sumardji, revealed that all agendas were running according to what had been determined, including the gathering of senior Indonesian national team players.

"They (the players) are senior according to the schedule I received, on schedule. All of them (collect) on September 1, 202 there (Surabaya)," Sumardji said in a statement quoted Monday, August 25, 2025.

Regarding the FIFA Matchday agenda in September 2025, Patrick Kluivert as the head coach of the Indonesian national team has announced 27 players who have been called up to the team. Later, these players will first undergo an intensive training camp (TC).

"We will start the training camp a few days before there are two matches (on FIFA Matchday)," Sumardji added.

Sumardji also said it was possible for additional players to face Lebanon. The reason is, the naturalization of Mauro Zijlstra and Miliano Jonathans is targeted to be completed in the near future.

"We will see if it can be completed (naturalization). Of course it will follow developments later. For example, it is possible, yes, what's wrong," said Sumardji.

The FIFA Matchday agenda will be held as a preparation event for the 2026 World Cup Qualification Fourth Round which will be held in October 2025.

Initially, the Indonesian national team was scheduled to face Kuwait and Lebanon. However, the latest news states that Kuwait has resigned from this agenda.

Apart from this FIFA Matchday agenda, the Indonesian national team is in Group A with Saudi Arabia and Iraq in the Fourth Round of the 2026 Asian Zone World Cup Qualification. Later all matches will be held at King Abdullah Sports City, Saudi Arabia.
