Protest in Front of the House of Representatives, Police Fire Tear Gas at Protesters

JAKARTA - Police fired water cannons and then tear gas at the protesters in front of the DPR/MPR RI Building in Jakarta on Monday, August 25th.

VOI's monitoring at the scene revealed that police dispersed the crowd, who ignored orders to disperse.

The demonstrators instead attacked them by throwing stones and hitting the police barricade with bamboo.

Tear gas was fired at the DPR/MPR toll exit in Jakarta.

A call to demonstrate in front of the DPR Building on Monday, August 25th, recently went viral on social media. The call to protest emerged after the issue of DPR members' salaries and allowances became a public spotlight.
