Shot by Police Water Cannon, 2 Injured Protesters Carried Away from Parliament Building

JAKARTA - Several demonstrators in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) building suffered back and leg injuries after officers fired water cannons to break up the protesters' concentration.

One protester, a resident of Tanjung Priok, suffered a back injury suspected to be a dislocated or dislocated vertebra.

"From Priok, (how could it be dislocated, ed.) Shot, water cannon," said a resident lying in front of the concrete fence at the main gate of the DPR/MPR building on Jalan Gatot Soebroto, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Monday, August 25.

The man, who did not want to give his name, appeared relaxed, but then groaned in pain when he moved his shoulder. He admitted to being confused by the water cannon, even though he believed the demonstration proceeded without any violence.

"(I was, ed.) I was dazed, shot, came with my little brother, I was really desperate (for shoulder pain)," he said.

Meanwhile, another student, who suffered a leg injury, was assisted by Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) officers. The victim was then carried away by other demonstrators away from the demonstration to the Senayan Park area.

"The military brought it, the police are dogs," he said.

Two people suspected of being provocateurs were then taken into the DPR building by authorities.
