Getting To Know The Latest Generation "Hands-Free" Driving System From Subaru
JAKARTA Subaru is again making a breakthrough in the automotive world by introducing an update to their advanced driver assistance system, EyeSight. Through this update, the Japanese manufacturer presents the Hands-Free Driving Assist feature that allows drivers to drive "hands-free" on certain highways, especially in the United States.
This system will be embedded in the 2026 Subaru Outback model. The Hands-Free Driving Assist feature is part of the fifth generation EyeSight system which is claimed to be capable of autonomously controlling cars level 2, including advancing, slowing, navigating bends, and switching lanes, at speeds of up to 135 km/hour.
How Does This Feature Work?
Referring to the Jalopnik report, Monday, August 25, it is said that the fifth generation of the EyeSight system is equipped with three new front cameras and an upgraded radar sensor. Two of the three cameras are placed near the rearview mirror, while the new wide-angle mono camera is tasked with detecting cyclists and pedestrians. Subaru hopes that this latest technology can reduce driver fatigue while driving long distances on toll roads.
Since its introduction more than a decade ago, the EyeSight system has been installed on more than a million vehicles. Previously, EyeSight was known as one of the best driver assistance systems, and even received a high assessment in AAA studies.
