Howe Warns Newcastle Of Equity Threats Ahead Of The Match Against Liverpool
JAKARTA - Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe reminded his defenders to be vigilant as they prepare for the players he wants to play with them this season, Hugo Ekitike.
As is known, in the second week of the 2025/2026 Premier League, Liverpool will visit St James' Park on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, early morning WIB.
Newcastle will meet the Ekitike they have been targeting since this summer to replace Alexander Isak. The 23-year-old French player instead moved to Anfield from Eintracht Frankfurt last month for 69 million pounds.
"Undeniably, I really like Hugo and have liked him for a few years. He has very good quality and he showed him in his first Premier League game."
"He made a very good debut against Bournemouth. He had a very good movement, was smart, good at the air, scored, and scored with both feet."
"Our job is to remain calm. He will be a threat this season," Howe told ESPN.
Ekitike has shown his greatness by scoring in a Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace and a 4-2 league win over Bournemouth on August 16, 2025.
He is one of a series of target attackers identified by The Magpies this summer as they look for a replacement for Callum Wilson and seek to protect themselves if Isak is sold.
Newcastle also failed to bring in Joao Pedro who chose Chelsea and Benjamin Sesko who landed at Manchester United.
Howe has just signed Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale, Malick Thiaw, and Jacob Ramsey. He is currently eyeing Brentford's Yoane Wissa for a small chance.
Newcastle finally switched to targeting Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
"I would be happy when that happens - happy if we get what we want. Every time you pass the transfer market, there are joys and sorrows."
"There are some bad things on the transfer market this time, but also a lot of positive things. The players we recruited were very good players and would be very useful to the squad, especially in terms of abilities, athletes, and fresh energy that I had mentioned before."
"There are a lot of positive things for us. Of course, there is one difficult situation that has not been resolved. From that side, I can't wait for the transfer market to end because we can return to focus on football matches," said Howe.
