Odegaard And Saka Injured, Arteta: The Depth Of The Arsenal Squad Is Tested

JAKARTA - Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta confirmed two of his flagship players, Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka, were injured when the Gunners silenced Leeds United 5-0 in the second week of the Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium, London, Saturday night WIB.

The captain of the Odegaard team was pulled out in the 38th minute to be replaced by Ethan Nwaneri after feeling discomfort in the shoulder. Meanwhile, Saka came out in the 53rd minute to be replaced by Leandro Trossard due to a hamstring problem.

"Martin felt discomfort on her shoulder when she landed after an aerial duel. We have to scan it tomorrow to understand her condition better," Arteta said in a club statement on Sunday.

"Bukayo, while carrying the ball, grapples with the opposing defender and feels something in his hamstring," continued the Spaniard.

The injuries of these two key players became an expensive price for Arsenal's victory. Arteta emphasized that the depth of the squad was an urgent need after Kai Havertz was also injured in the first week.

"We have competed for two weeks and lost Kai, Martin, and Bukayo. This shows how important the squad's depth is to maintain the level of play in this league," said Arteta.

With this victory, Arsenal topped the Premier League standings with a collection of six points from two matches.
