Attending Ukraine's Independence Day Event, Canadian PM Arrives In Kyiv

JAKARTA - Canadian Prime Minister (PM) Mark Carney arrives in Kyiv, Ukraine, today, Sunday, August 24.

His arrival to commemorate Ukraine's Independence Day amid world leaders pressing to end the Ukraine-Russia war and the Israeli invasion of Palestine.

On this Ukrainian Independence Day, and at a critical moment in the history of their nation, Canada increased our support and efforts towards a just and lasting peace for Ukraine, Carney wrote on his Instagram account shortly after landing at Kyiv.

Canadian media, CBC, reported that Carney was invited to this event as a special guest by Ukraine.

"Canada's support for Ukraine is inevitable and we are always with you at every step, in your struggle to defend your sovereignty, and realize your dream for your country," Carney said in a separate post in the form of video.

Carney's visit to the war-torn country comes as Russian forces continue to make progress in the three-year conflict in Ukraine.

On Saturday, Russia announced that it had seized two villages in the Donetsk region, eastern Ukraine.

Carney's arrival to Kyiv also comes amid the fading prospect of a summit between Russian-Ukraine Presidents a solution promoted by US President Donald Trump as part of his efforts to end the war.
