Observer: Ministry Of Manpower Officials Must Promise To Be Sentenced To Death If Proven Corruption
JAKARTA - Employment observer from the University of Indonesia (UI), Aloysius Uwiyono, emphasized the importance of the commitment of public officials, especially at the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker), to maintain integrity and not abuse authority.
According to him, severe punishments such as the death penalty deserve to be used as an instrument so that officials are really afraid to commit corruption.
This is in response to the determination of the suspect Deputy Minister of Manpower (Wamenaker), Immanuel Ebenezer or called Noel, by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), on Friday, August 22, 2025.
"Therefore, every Ministry of Manpower official must promise to be sentenced to death if he is proven to have committed a criminal act of corruption," he told VOI, Saturday, August 23, 2025.

He argues that the determination of the suspect by the KPK anti-corruption agency is proof that corrupt practices are still rampant in Indonesia.
According to him, the crime must be eradicated to the root because it is very detrimental to the community, especially workers who only receive the minimum wage.
"Mr. Noel's determination as a suspect by the KPK shows that corruptors are still mushrooming in Indonesia."
"This means that corruptors must be brushed down to the roots because they harm the community, especially workers who are paid the minimum wage," said Aloy.
Previously, the KPK carried out a hand arrest operation (OTT) against Wamenaker Immanuel Ebenezer. He is suspected of being involved in extortion practices in managing Work Safety and Health certification (K3).
In the OTT, KPK investigators also confiscated dozens of vehicles suspected of being related to this case, sealing a number of rooms within the Ministry of Manpower, including the office of the Directorate General of Manpower and Safety and Health Supervision (Ditjen Binwasnaker and K3).
After collecting evidence, the KPK named Immanuel Ebenezer along with 10 other people as suspects in the K3 case.
The suspects were charged with Article 12 Letter e and/or Article 12B of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 jo. Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code.
