FBI Searches Home of Former Trump Adviser, John Bolton

JAKARTA - FBI agents searched the home of John Bolton, a former adviser to US President Donald Trump who has recently become a critic. The search is related to a national security investigation.

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents began searching his home in Bethesda, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, August 22 local time.

The investigation is being led by FBI Director Kash Patel, according to the New York Post, which first reported the raid.

"NO ONE is above the law… @FBI agents on mission," Patel wrote, without mentioning Bolton, posted on X, as reported by Reuters.

Bolton served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations (UN) and White House national security adviser during Trump's first term.

However, he has since become a critic of the Republican president, calling him unfit for duty.

Trump has repeatedly used his presidential powers against perceived enemies since taking office in January 2025, following his campaign promise of political retribution.

The president previously stripped Bolton of his Secret Service security detail after the U.S. Justice Department alleged that Iran had threatened his life.

The White House has also been accused of improperly interfering to block Bolton from releasing his best-selling memoir by falsely claiming it contained classified information.
