Deputy Minister Of Environment Reveals 39 Percent Of New Managed Waste From A Total Of 56.63 Million Tons Per Year

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Environment/Head of the Environmental Control Agency (LH) Diaz Hendropriyono said that currently the amount of waste managed has only reached 39 percent of the total 56.63 million tons of waste per year entering the final disposal site (TPA).

Diaz said, based on Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 12 of 2025, the government is targeted to be able to manage waste up to 50 percent so far this year.

This was conveyed by Diaz in his remarks at the Annual Indonesia Green Industry Summit 2025 2nd (AIGIS) at JCC, Friday, August 22.

Meanwhile, according to Diaz, if it is calculated from the material recovery facility, it may only be 9 percent managed.

"So, we have a lot of homework (PR). And regarding waste, we are also given a high target of reducing emissions by 31.89 percent by 2030. That is the commitment we have given to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)," he said.

He explained that one ton of waste produced, be it solid waste (solid waste) or solid waste (municipal solid waste) is equivalent to 1.7 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

"So, the resolution of waste also certainly has a very positive impact on the success of reducing emissions," he explained.

According to Diaz, the government cannot solve problems related to waste alone.

He said joint collaboration was needed to find a solution.

"The government cannot do it alone. In fact, if I say the government can't do anything without the presence of supporting industry players, it can implement what has been targeted by the government, especially the president," he concluded.
