Dispute Between Isak And Newcastle, Alan Shearer: He Turns On The Fire

JAKARTA - Former Newcastle United captain, Alan Shearer, said that the striker who wanted to leave, Alexander Isak, had set fire to his dispute with the club by accusing the club of breaking promises.

Shearer added that the Swedish player's comments did not benefit anyone.

Isak has been trying to force the club to let him go in this summer's transfer window after the club turned down an offer from Liverpool, which reached 110 million at the start of the transfer window.

After missing a pre-season tour in Asia and training alone since then, Isak has also missed the Premier League opener, which Newcastle played a goalless draw against Aston Villa on Saturday, August 16, 2025 local time.

The striker exacerbated the situation on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, evening local time, with an Instagram post stating that this relationship could not continue.

"In reality, promises have been made and the club has known my position for a long time. Acting as if this problem has just emerged is misleading."

"When the promise is broken and trust is lost, the relationship cannot be continued," wrote Isak.

The situation made the legend Newcastle open his voice. Speaking to Betfair, Shearer said that the situation was really chaotic while accusing Isak's agent, Vlado Lemic.

"If I were him, I would call his agent to the room and immediately fire him. He (agent) should have given him advice to sign a six-year contract and no release clause."

"I mean, it's ridiculous, believing anyone's words in the world of football. It doesn't make sense to say someone says they can come out at the end of the season. Really?"

"I always say there are two sides to every story, but my feelings remain the same, he misunderstands."

"I just thought, even releasing the statement (Isak's upload on Instagram) had made the atmosphere worse. In fact, he didn't need to."

"I understand that we need to hear the story. We've heard it now. I'm not saying I don't believe him or I don't believe Newcastle."

"I'm just saying it's really, really a mess for him and for this football club. It doesn't benefit anyone," Shearer said.

Newcastle responded by denying that Isak had been given any guarantees regarding his potential move.

"We are firm in responding that Alex is still under contract and there has never been a commitment made by club officials that Alex could leave Newcastle United this summer," the club said in a statement.

Liverpool's offer was rejected in early August 2025, but still retains interest in players scoring 27 goals in 42 games for Newcastle in the 2024/2025 season despite signing Hugo Ekitike - a striker who is also being targeted by Newcastle.

Newcastle considers Isak 150 million pounds, according to ESPN, and will only consider selling if they sign a replacement.

In addition to failing to get Ekitike, The Magpies are also frustrated in their efforts to recruit Benjamin Sesko who chose to join Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Isak still has the remaining three-year contract at St James' Park.
