US Intensifies Migrant Deportations, Uganda Ready to Accept Africans as Long as Not Criminals

JAKARTA - Uganda has agreed to a deal with the United States (US) to accept deported migrants on Thursday. However, the conditions are that the migrants have no criminal records and are not unaccompanied minors.

Citing AP, the Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Thursday that Uganda and the US are drafting a detailed agreement for the deal to be implemented immediately.

Uganda also stated that US migrants brought to the country must be African nationals.

However, no details were provided regarding this agreement. However, in a statement, the Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the agreement had been "finalized."

Uganda's Minister of International Relations, Henry Okello Oryem, said that although Uganda is known globally for its openness to migrants, its refugee policy has its limits.

Henry then questioned why the US accepts people rejected by their own country.

"We are talking about a cartel: people who are unwanted in their own country. How can we integrate them into the local community in Uganda?" Henry asked.
