Serang Police Chief Confirms Arrest Of Perpetrators Of Beating Journalists And KLHK Teams When Closing Factory Allegedly Environmental Pollution
SERANG - A team from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) together with a journalist is suspected of being the victim of a beating while closing the operations of PT Genesis Regency Smelting (GRS) in Jawilan District, Serang Regency, Banten.
The company is known to be in the process of taking legal action because it is suspected of carrying out environmental pollution.
Serang Police Chief AKBP Condro Sasongko said the incident occurred when the KLHK team came to the location last Wednesday to follow up on the violations committed by the company.
"On February 25, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry had come here, and even installed a police line because this company carried out pollution. But it was ignored," Condro said when met in Serang, Antara, Thursday, August 21.
When the team came back to carry out a forced closure, they actually got a refusal that led to acts of violence.
"There are four people from KLHK's public relations and one media colleague who is suspected of being the victim of a beating by security officers and several company employees," he said.
According to Condro, the motive for the beating was allegedly because the perpetrators tried to prevent the KLHK team from entering the factory area.
"We have pocketed the names of the perpetrators. Including the alleged involvement of individuals from community organizations (ormas). God willing, we will arrest them today," he said.
The Serang Police Chief also responded to the alleged involvement of police officers in the incident, especially regarding the request to remove the incident video recording by journalists.
"When it comes to that, we leave it to the Professional and Security Team (Propam). That's their domain," he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of Propam Banten Police, Kombes Murwoto, stated that his party was investigating the report.

"We will go down to determine whether there are police officers involved in this incident. Currently, they are still in the investigation stage," said Murwoto.
