Thursday Opened Rupiah To Weaken To Rp15,524 Per US Dollar

JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate was opened to weaken on Thursday, April 23 trading. The rupiah weakened 72 points or 0.47 percent to a level of IDR 15,522 per United States dollar (US).

Monex Investindo Futures Research Head, ARiston Tjendra, said the rupiah weakened amidst positive sentiment this morning to the Asian market. The sentiment continued the positive sentiment since the European market opened yesterday until the US market closed at dawn.

"The market hopes that the lockdown will soon open with the growth in the number of people infected with COVID-19 in several European countries and in the US," he told VOI.

In addition, he said, positive sentiment came from the US House of Representatives which would approve additional stimulus from the US government amounting to more than 480 billion US dollars.

"The rebound in crude oil prices also helped positive sentiment. Today the rupiah has the potential to strengthen to the range of Rp15,250-15,500 per US dollar," he said.
