Winning 3 Market Digitalization Awards, Bank Jakarta Boss: Foundation for Empowering the People's Economy
JAKARTA - Bank Jakarta won the Banking Partner and Financial Literacy Bank Partner awards at the Market Digitalization Competition, which also included BCA, Bank Mandiri, BRI, and BNI.
The Market Digitalization Competition was conducted collaboratively between the Jakarta Provincial Government, the Regional Public Company (Perumda) Pasar Jaya, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and Bank Indonesia (BI). The goal was to encourage traditional markets to switch to digital payment systems to create faster, safer, and more transparent transactions.
Of the 153 markets managed by Perumda Pasar Jaya, 20 traditional markets were selected as pilot locations.
These markets were randomly selected based on their classification (class A, B, and C) and the number of active businesses. They competed in several categories: Most Active Literacy Program, Best Financial Digitalization, and Most Massive Financial Access.
Bank Jakarta received three awards simultaneously, including Best Banking Partner in Market B (Koja Market) and Market A (Mayestik Market),
and Second Best Financial Literacy Bank Partner.
The awards were presented directly by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung to Bank Jakarta President Director Agus H. Widodo, witnessed by Deputy Head of Bank Indonesia Representative Office for Jakarta Province, Yosamartha, and Head of the Greater Jakarta Financial Services Authority, Edwin Nurhadi, at the Main Hall of Tanah Abang Market, Block B, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, August 21st.
"My thinking is simple: digitalization is inevitable. However, if the literacy process isn't contested, banks aren't pitted against each other, and the market isn't monitored, there won't be a leap or a surge. So, when I opened the Market Digitalization Competition, I never imagined the increase would be so significant. The use of QRIS, including transactions, demonstrates what we're doing together, demonstrating extraordinary progress," said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung.
He added that Jakarta contributed 16.61 percent to the national GDP, with growth of 5.18 percent, higher than the national average of 5.12 percent.
This means Jakarta is growing better. One of the driving factors is digitalization. With digitalization, pickpocketing has decreased, primism has diminished, and Tanah Abang Market, as the center of the ASEAN market, has been able to revive.
"I appreciate the collaboration between banks, Bank Indonesia (BI), the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and Pasar Jaya. The results are extraordinary: QRIS usage in 20 markets has increased by almost 47 percent, merchants' NPWPs have also increased significantly, and e-commerce transactions have surged by more than 40 percent," he said.
Meanwhile, Bank Jakarta President Director Agus H. Widodo expressed his gratitude for the award given to Bank Jakarta.
He stated that Bank Jakarta is using this Market Digitalization Competition as an opportunity to promote financial literacy and inclusion.
"We view the digitalization of traditional markets as part of the transformation of Jakarta's financial ecosystem. This effort not only provides ease of transactions through QRIS and EDC, but also opens broader access for MSMEs to enter the formal financial system. Bank Jakarta is committed to making digitalization the foundation for empowering the people's economy," said Agus.
