Responding To The Raya Case, The DPR Asks The Head Of The RT/RW To Be Proactive In Reviewing Its Citizens Who Need Health Checks

JAKARTA - The chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, responded to the case of a child named Raya in Sukabumi, West Java, who died from a worm infection. Puan asked all parties to be proactive, especially the head of the local RT/RW to review residents who need health services.

"We hope that the Posyandu teams that should exist in every village and in each kelurahan can be more proactive to be able to review, see what all the residents are if they need their health checks," said Puan at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, August 21.

"Also it should be possible for the head of the RT, the head of the RW in these areas, in these villages to be able to review, see the residents if they really need a health check," he continued.

Puan also asked the local RT management to report to the government if there were residents who needed health assistance, including BPJS Kesehatan.

"And report that later a health check is needed, maybe a BPJS card is also needed, reported to the government or the local government," he said.

According to Puan, proactive steps for all parties are needed as an effort so that similar incidents do not happen again in the future.

"So we are proactive together to encourage things like this to happen again," concluded Puan.

As reported, a toddler girl named Raya, a child from Kabandungan, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, died after her body was full of worms. In fact, Raya has long been under nutritional supervision by village officials in Padangenyang Village, Kabandungan Village, Sukabumi Regency.

The four-year-old girl is known as one of the children with BGM status (under the red line), a medical term for malnutrition and is a major concern in local posyandu services.

The village government has also provided additional nutritional assistance regularly, both from regular programs and village funds. However, efforts to refer Raya to the Puskesmas for consultation of nutritionists have problems with parental approval.
