National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Leads Police Fighting Day Ceremony In Surabaya
SURABAYA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo became the inspector of the commemoration ceremony of the 2nd National Police's Day in 2025 with the theme "With the Spirit of Fighting Day, Police Towards Advanced Indonesia" in Surabaya, Thursday, August 21.
"The National Police's Fighting Day is not only a symbol of history, but also a symbol of the dedication and commitment of the National Police to continue to serve and provide the best service to the nation," said the National Police Chief, quoted by ANTARA.
Head of Public Relations of the East Java Police, Police Commissioner Jules Abraham Abast, said that the commemoration of the National Police's Juang Day will begin to be set in 2024 through the Decree of the National Police Chief Number Kep/1325/VIII/2024 dated August 12, 2024.
The decision stipulates that the National Police's Fighting Day is commemorated every year through a ceremony, and every five years accompanied by a carnival tradition.
"The ceremony we held today is the second anniversary after last year's first time," said Abast.
He explained that the determination of August 21 as the National Police's Juang Day departed from a long history of the police's struggle to defend independence.
On August 21, 1945, Class I Police Inspector Mohammad Jasin, who served as Commander of the Special Police, proclaimed the Special Police as part of the Indonesian National Police.
"Since then, the Special Police have been actively dismantling Japanese army weapons and fighting in the November 10, 1945 incident with Suroboyo crew members," he said.
According to him, if at the inaugural commemoration of 2024 a traditional and theatrical procession of struggle will be held, this year the event will be marked with a short historical film screening about Mohammad Jasin and the inauguration of the monument to the statue of the National Police hero.
"This is to remind all of us to make his struggle and heroism a role model, as well as to motivate the spirit of the next generation of the Police," said Abast.
The ceremony was also attended by the main officials of the National Police Headquarters, namely Kabaharkam Polri Inspector General of Police Karyoto, Kalemdiklat Polri Komjen Polisi Chryshnanda Dwilaksana, Dankorbrimob Komjen Polisi Imam Widodo, Kadivpropam Inspector General of Police Abdul Karim, Kadivhumas Inspector General of Police Sandi Nugroho, and Kakorlantas Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho.
