DPR Salary Satire Workers Union Rp3 Million Per Day: Only Rp150,000.

JAKARTA - The President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI), Said Iqbal, highlighted the issue of the salaries of members of the Indonesian House of Representatives which were considered unreasonable in the midst of the increasingly squeezed condition of the people. According to him, the inequality between the income of the people's representatives and workers is increasingly striking and hurts the sense of public justice.

"In the BBC release that I read, the salary of DPR members reaches Rp. 104 million per month, plus a housing allowance of Rp. 50 million. Indeed, the largest is the housing allowance. If you add up, the total is Rp. 154 million. 30 days, it means that a member of the DPR enjoys more than Rp. 3 million per day," Said Iqbal said online, Wednesday, August 20.

He compared the figure to contract workers or outsourcing in Jakarta, cities with the highest minimum wage in Indonesia. On average they only get Rp. 5 million per month or Rp. 150,000 per day, around 1/20 of the daily income of DPR members.

Inequality is even more felt when you look at the informal sector. Many workers in cooperatives, foundations, and government programs such as Free Nutrition Food (MBG) only receive IDR 1.5 million per month or IDR 50,000 per day.

He also compared the income of legislators with online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol) such as Grab and Gojek who often only earn Rp. 500,000 to Rp. 1 million per month.

If the average is calculated at IDR 600,000, then their daily income is only IDR 20,000. Iqbal said the amount obtained was not even sufficient for the basic needs of small families.

"Members of the House of Representatives are paid more than Rp. 3 million per day, while workers who work in stages are only Rp. 150,000 per day. That is also for single people, not if they are married. In the midst of people, their purchasing power has decreased, their income is low, and the outsourcing work system is prone to layoffs without social security. , the DPR only works for five years and can retire for life. It hurts people's hearts," said Said Iqbal.

According to him, this issue is not just a number, but a matter of a sense of justice that has been cut off. "People see representatives who should fight for their interests actually living on an ivory tower, far from the sad reality of millions of workers below," he concluded.

The chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, dismissed reports that the salaries of DPR members had increased to Rp. 3 million per day. According to him, the information is not true and misleading.

"Not an increase in salary, but a compensation in the form of housing money as a substitute for the housing facilities that have been returned to the government," explained Puan, Sunday, August 17.

Puan explained that the Rp100 million figure that was widely discussed by the public was not purely a salary, but also a home allowance. He conveyed this to straighten out the issue that said the salaries of DPR members jumped to Rp90 million per month or Rp3 million per day.
