Tanah Abang Raids: From Homeless People to Illegal Parking Attendants Caught
JAKARTA – Homeless people have once again become rampant in the Tanah Abang area of Central Jakarta, particularly in the Kebon Melati and Kebon Kacang areas.
To curb this, a joint team of officers from the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), the Social Affairs Sub-dept., the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) conducted a raid on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. As a result, nine individuals in need of Social Welfare Services (PPKS) were apprehended.
"Those we apprehended ranged from homeless people to illegal parking attendants. The focus was on Kebon Melati and Kebon Kacang," said Tanah Abang Deputy Sub-district Head, Dwiarti.
According to her, the raid was carried out to prevent thuggery and the misuse of public and social facilities. The nine individuals apprehended were immediately taken to social institutions for further guidance.
"Those we apprehended are all new residents. We ask social workers not to release them easily, even if they have family members vouching for them. The goal is to create a deterrent effect," she added.
