Volvo Says Goodbye To Sedan And Wagon, Focuses On Selling SUVs In The United States

JAKARTA Unpleasant news came from Volvo. This Swedish auto brand is rumored to be cutting its product lineup in the United States, along with the dynamics of ups and downs of import rates and changing market trends.

Citing Carbuzz's report, Wednesday, August 20, Volvo is said to only maintain a model that is believed to still have a strong appeal in Uncle Sam's country. In fact, over the years Volvo has been known to consistently offer elegant station wagons and premium sedans that highlight comfort without having to sacrifice sporty characters.

However, the situation seems to be changing. According to Automotive News, after the year the 2026 Volvo model will only sell SUVs in the US market. In other words, the S90 sedans as well as the V60 station wagon and V90 Cross Country will be discontinued. The only exception is the V60 Cross Country, which in character resembles a higher SUV than a classic wagon.

We will no longer offer S90 and V60 in the US after the 2026 fiscal year. Especially for V60, only the Cross Country variant remains available. We have stopped S90 sales ourselves after the 2025 fiscal year," said a Volvo spokesperson.

Furthermore, Volvo acknowledged that tariff policies did play a role in this decision. But another more dominant factor is the decline in consumer interest in sedans, while SUV demand continues to soar. For V60, our focus is now on the Cross Country variant which is more in demand by the US market," he added.

This decision marks the end of an era. Volvo is known as one of the last manufacturers to still faithfully present a trailer line in the US, when almost all premium competitors had already given up.

Even though it feels disappointing for wagon and sedan fans, this Volvo move actually only accelerates the trend that has occurred: the US automotive market is increasingly dominated by crossovers and SUVs, so the choice of consumers is getting narrower.
