Jakarta Youth Dies After AstraZeneca Vaccine, Anies Awaits the Decree of the Ministry of Health

JAKARTA - Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan claimed to have coordinated with Deputy Minister of Health Dante Saksono Harbuwono to discuss the case of death of DKI citizens after getting AstraZeneca vaccine injections.

"This incident needs to be a very serious concern because we are building the trust of the community to want to vaccinate", said Anies at Hall City of DKI, Central Jakarta, Monday, May 10.

Anies said he is currently waiting for research from the Ministry of Health who is looking to find out the cause of death of youth after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine from the UK.

Therefore, he has not decided to stop AstraZeneca vaccination which is currently running for community groups in the slum of Citizens Association and COVID-19 prone zone areas.

"Until now there has been no policy direction that has changed. So it's still the same. This vaccination can not run alone", said Anies.

A 22-year-old from Buaran, Jakarta, died after one day after being vaccinated by COVID-19. Until now the cause of death of the deceased is still not enough evidence to be associated with vaccination.

Chairman of the National Commission on Post-Immunization Follow-up Events (Komnas KIPI) Prof. Hindra Irawan Satari said it had not obtained enough evidence to link the incident to vaccination.

"National Commission together with Regional Commission of DKI had a joint audit last Friday, and internal Komnas yesterday afternoon concluded that there is not enough evidence to associate this KIPI with immunization, therefore further investigation is still needed", he said.

As is known, a young man from Buaran, East Jakarta, named Trio Fauqi Virdaus died after being injected with the AstraZeneca vaccine one day earlier.

Initially, Trio felt a fever after getting an injection of the AstraZeneca vaccine at Istora Senayan on Wednesday, May 5.

The next day, Trio's condition weakened. He was then taken to the hospital. However, Trio's life could not be saved. The trio was pronounced dead on Thursday, May 6 at around 12.30 pm.
