After Kangaroo Bond's Success, The Government Will Issue Dim Sum Bond

JAKARTA - The Indonesian government plans to immediately issue debt securities in the non-profit denomination which will be marketed in China, especially in Hong Kong, with an instrument known as Dim Sum Bond.

This step was taken following the successful issuance of the initial debt securities in the Australian dollar denomination, namely Kangaroo Bond, which managed to attract great interest from global investors.

Acting Director of Government Securities of the Directorate General of Financing and Risk Management (DJPPR) of the Ministry of Finance Novi Puspita Wardani explained that the issuance of the Sum Bond Dim is now in the priority line after Kangaroo Bond officially released on August 7, 2025.

"After Kangaroo Bond's success, the next pipeline is the issuance of (perdana) Dim Sum Bond, to expand the base of investors in Asia as well as strengthen the diversification of the APBN financing portfolio," he said in his statement, Wednesday, August 20.

Novi said that the issuance of Dim Sum Bond would be adjusted to market conditions and developments in APBN financing needs.

However, the government has not provided detailed information regarding the exact schedule for the issuance of the Sum Bond Dim.

Novi emphasized that the government will continue to implement a careful, flexible, and measurable financing strategy, taking into account the timing selection of issuance, types of instruments, and the balance of currency composition.

For information, the Indonesian government has succeeded in carrying out the first issuance of Kangaroo Bond in the Australian dollar currency on August 7, 2025 with a schedule of August 14, 2025.

According to him, this transaction is an important step to expand the investor base, diversify the source of state budget financing, as well as strengthen cooperation in the financial sector of Indonesia "Australia".

The first issuance of Kangaroo Bonds received a very positive response where investor demand reached 8 billion Australian dollars or 10 times greater than the total issuance of 800 million Australian dollars.

Then, about a third comes from Australian domestic investors, an achievement that shows Australia's growing market interest and confidence in Indonesia's economic fundamentals.

Next, the large interest of investors made the Government manage to set a competitive yield rate of 4.427 percent for a 5 year tenor and 5.380 percent for a 10-year tenor.
