Golkar Ready To Welcome Setya Novanto Back, Get A New Position?

JAKARTA - The Golkar Party has stated that it is ready to accept back the former convict of the e-KTP corruption case, Setya Novanto (Setnov). This was conveyed by the Deputy Chairperson of the Golkar Party, Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung.

According to Doli, Setnov is officially still an active cadre of the Golkar Party. This is because there has never been a letter of resignation from Setnov or the party's official decision to dismiss him.

"Golkar has never issued a letter to dismiss Mr. Setya Novanto. So, until today he is still a Golkar Party cadre," said Doli, Tuesday, August 19.

Doli emphasized that because the status of the cadres was still attached, Setnov would again occupy positions in the party structure. However, he has not disclosed in detail what position the former chairman of the DPR will hold.

"If Mr. Novanto is willing to be active again, of course we will place him in a position that is in accordance with his experience and seniority," he said.

Doli also welcomed the conditional free remission given by the Directorate General of Corrections to Setnov. He considered that the conditional freedom was in accordance with applicable legal regulations.

"We are grateful, meaning that our cadres have finished undergoing the legal process. Conditional release is given after fulfilling the requirements, such as having served two-thirds of their sentence, behaved well, and participated in the coaching program," he explained.

With this certainty, the public is now waiting for Golkar's steps in determining what strategic positions will be given to Setya Novanto in the party bearing the banyan tree.
