JAKARTA - The third-generation Garuda Select players are excited to face Manchester City's youth team in their ninth test match in England on Tuesday night.
"Manchester City is my favourite club. I am very excited for the match and will try to perform better than ever. Hopefully our defense is not easily conceded," said Garuda Select defender Edgard Amping, quoted by Antara from pssi's official website in Jakarta on Monday.
Similar to Edgard, his colleague Ridwan Ansori also expressed similar feelings.
For Ridwan, the opportunity against an academy team of one of England's great clubs was like a dream.
"I can't wait to compete against the 'Premier League' champions' academy. It's like a dream. I will try to show all the best of the results of the training," he said.
Meanwhile Tanzanian Garuda Select player Shabani Mbwana Kingazi promised he and the team would try to show hard work on the pitch and surprise Manchester City.
"The opponent that will be faced is one of the best academies in England. We'll still try to be surprising," Shabani said.
The match against Manchester City will be Garuda Select's third test match during its training program in Europe since December 2020.
Previously, they had completed eight matches with three wins, four draws and only one loss.
Victories were recorded over QPR (5-1), Watford (2-1) and Crystal Palace (5-3).
Then the draw came against Port Vale (1-1), Mansfield Town (2-2), Cheltenham Town (2-2) and Leeds United (7-7).
The only defeat came against Swindon Town 0–1.
