Extreme Rain In North China Kills 13 People, 5 Others Lost
JAKARTA - The death toll from extreme rains that hit northern China increased to 13 as of Tuesday 19 August. While the other five people are still missing.
The death toll after three bodies were found in the city of Ordos, Inner Mongolia, was flooded.
Xinhua reports that extreme high-intensity rains have hit parts of China since July 2025, with heavy rains in East Asia stops in the northern and southern regions.
Last week, extreme weather warnings were issued by the local government with the possibility of heavy rain falling over the next few days.
On Monday, the first extreme rain since the weather warning fell in parts of northern China.

Earlier, on Saturday last week, flash floods occurred in northern China after rivers overflowed killing at least 10 people, sweeping 13 people on the outskirts of the northern Chinese city of Bayannur.
Local authorities said they managed to save one person, but the other two were still missing.
Meteorologists say heavy rains and severe flooding hit northern China due to climate change. This situation triggered the collapse of old embankments, causing millions of people to flee, and economic losses of billions of dollars.
