PLN Electrifies Villages in North Luwu with SuperSUN
JAKARTA - The Village Electrification Program (Lisdes) through PT PLN (Persero)'s SuperSUN innovation provides reliable electricity to schools, public facilities, and places of worship, replacing the generators that have been a daily source of electricity for residents of North Luwu.
SuperSUN is a locally developed electrification solution based on micro-solar power plants (PLTS) integrated with a battery energy storage system. To date, 36 SuperSUN units have been installed, providing energy independence for Seko residents, making learning more comfortable for children, public services smoother, and worship services more solemn.
General Manager of PLN's Main Distribution Unit for South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and West Sulawesi (UID Sulselrabar), Edyansyah, explained that SuperSUN is part of PLN's transformation to encourage new and renewable energy (EBT)-based electrification, especially in areas previously difficult to reach by the conventional electricity grid.
"By August 2025, 1,457 SuperSUN units will have been installed in the PLN UID Sulselrabar working area, bringing tangible changes to the community, from local economic growth to new hope," he said on Tuesday, August 19.
In addition, 358 schools will be guaranteed access to electricity, opening up space for a more modern and inclusive learning process.
"The presence of electricity is a bridge to the future. SuperSUN brings tangible change while improving the community's quality of life. This success is inseparable from the spirit of mutual cooperation and community support, which finally enabled electricity to be restored in Seko," Edyansyah continued.
The effort to reach Seko District was no easy task for the PLN team. From Makassar City, personnel traveled up to 570 kilometers to the SuperSUN installation locations. At several points, they had to traverse extreme routes, carrying solar panels weighing 100 kilograms and measuring 2.3 x 1.7 meters, over ravines, muddy roads, rivers, and even narrow bridges and long tunnels.
