British Politicians Urge PM Starmer to Sanction Israel

JAKARTA - A group of politicians from Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have urged British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to immediately impose sanctions on Israel.

Citing AN, Tuesday, August 19, the demand was contained in a letter signed by 12 politicians and members of parliament.

They expressed "deep concern and rejection" of what they called the British government's support for Israel's actions in Gaza.

They also urged Starmer to recall Parliament from recess so that sanctions against Israel could be immediately imposed, including issuing a policy to end arms trade to Israel.

They also said that the UK must support a ceasefire to protect civilians, support an independent investigation into Israeli war crimes and genocide, and urge the "unhindered" delivery of aid to Gaza.

The signatories to the letter include Northern Ireland First Minister Michelle O'Neill; Social Democratic and Labour Party leader Claire Hanna; Westminster leader of the Scottish National Party Stephen Flynn; and Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorwerth.
