Texas Starts Investigation Of Meta AI And Character.AI For Misleading

Texas Attorney General Ken cap announced that he had opened an investigation into artificial intelligence chatbots (AI) from well-known companies, including Meta AI Studio and Character.AI.

This investigation was carried out because of allegations that the two chatbots were involved in fraudulent trade practices and mistakenly marketed themselves as mental medical devices.

According toLAds, the platform has the potential to raise serious concerns regarding privacy breaches, data abuse, and misleading advertising, if used by vulnerable groups, including children.

"In today's digital era, we must continue to struggle to protect Texas children from cheating and exploiting technology," the Attorney General said in a statement.

According to him, by pretending to be a source of emotional support, the AI platform can mislead users, especially since the platform often displays itself as a professional therapeutic tool even though it does not have valid medical credentials or supervision.

"In fact, they are often only given a generic recycling answer, adapted to the personal data collected, then packaged as if it were therapeutic advice," he explained further.

This investigation is a continuing attempt by the Attorney General to hold AI companies accountable and protect families in the Texas region.

The move follows an existing investigation into the Charter.AI over a potential SCOPE Act breach and aims to ensure that artificial intelligence tools are used legally, transparently, and not armed to exploit Texas society.
