RI's 80th Anniversary, Puan Invites To Strengthen The Commitment To Build The Future Of The Nation
JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, attended the Commemoration Ceremony of the Seconds of Proclamation in the context of the 80th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) which was held solemnly in the courtyard of the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.
This state ceremony was chaired directly by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto.
The Proclamation commemoration ceremony for the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia at the Merdeka Palace, Sunday, August 17, was attended by leaders of high state institutions, former presidents, ministers of the Red and White Cabinet to five TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
The commemoration of independence is even more lively because other invited guests from various elements of society are also present.
Puan, who was present wearing a red Minang traditional dress, sat on the main podium with President Prabowo. He sat flanked by the Chairman of the MPR RI Ahmad Muzani and the Chairman of the DPD RI Sultan Baktiar Najamudin.
Colonel Inf Amril Hairuman Tehupelasury was lined up as Ceremony Commander. Before the ceremony began, invited guests were presented with cultural arts performances to military attractions from the TNI-Polri ranging from helicopters to 8 F-16 temput jets carrying out flypass actions above the Presidential Palace.
In this momentum to commemorate Indonesia's 80th independence, Puan again emphasized the ideals of Indonesia gold as a noble promise that needs to be fought for.
"Eight decades of independent Indonesia are important moments to reflect on the nation's journey while strengthening its commitment to building a common future," said Puan.
"Golden Indonesia is not a false dream, but a noble promise that we stand for together," he continued.
Puan said that the essence of independence should not stop only as an annual ceremony. Independence, according to her, must really be felt by the people in their daily lives.
"The independence that is commemorated every year must not stop as a ceremony. For the people, the meaning of independence must be felt in everyday life: from the contents of the kitchen that is no longer empty, the cost of children's schools that do not make parents owe, to health services that can be accessed without worry," said Puan.
The grandson of the Proclaimer of the Republic of Indonesia, Sukarno, stated that the age of Indonesia, which has turned 80 years old, must be a reflection moment. Puan said that the true measure of independence is not the length of time the country stands, but to what extent the state is present and is able to ease the burden on the lives of its people.
"Can the price of food be reached by the small people? Do parents still have to owe it to send their children to school? Can the village and border communities access health services without having to travel for hours?" he said.
"These are fundamental questions that are the true measure of independence that we celebrate today," added Puan.
Puan assessed that Indonesia's main challenge today is to ensure that the meaning of independence is felt among the people.
"Independence must not stop at ceremonies or symbols, but must be a real experience felt by each family. How independence is present at the people's table, from all groups," said the first woman who served as Chair of the DPR RI.
Puan also mentioned the theme of the 80th anniversary of the celebration of Indonesian independence: Sovereign Unity, Prosperous People, Advanced Indonesia. He said this theme could be realized if the State ensured that every need of its people could be facilitated.
"The state must come with policies that are not just beautiful on paper, but really ease the burden of people's lives in the midst of global economic uncertainty," said Puan.
Puan gave an example that independence must be present when parents can serve nutritious food for their children without having to choose between buying food needs or paying bills.
In the health sector, said Puan, independence must be felt when people can access basic health services quickly and without anxiety.
"With puskesmas equipped with permanent medical personnel, essential medicines available without stock vacancies, and a fast referral system with ambulance support and telemedicine," he said.
In the education sector, Puan reminded the state to be present through the provision of schools that have quality teachers, proper infrastructure, and curriculum that are relevant to local needs.
"The meaning of independence also means ensuring equal distribution of development throughout Indonesia. In many remote areas, the people are still waiting for the presence of the state in the form of basic services such as stable electricity, equitable access to clean water, and adequate internet networks," he explained.
"Freedom means that there are no more people who feel marginalized in their own country. Freedom means that development is present evenly, from big cities to outer islands," added Puan.
Not only that, Puan also emphasized that true independence is when every citizen feels appreciated for his hard work. Farmers, for example, must be able to sell their crops at a price that protects them from the tengkulak game, with the support of cooperatives and access to modern supply chains.
"Fishermen need to be guaranteed market certainty and supporting port infrastructure so that the catch is still worth selling," he said.
Puan also assessed that independence also means that workers get certainty of decent wages, social security, and a safe and humane work environment. Including the fate of teachers who must continue to be fought for.
"And how all workers, both ASN and private, both in the formal sector and the informal sector, get guaranteed a healthy work climate. As well as SMEs and MSMEs to obtain protection in doing business," explained Puan.
"How do online motorcycle taxi drivers, street vendors, professional workers including from Gen-Z circles to other economic drivers get attention from the state," he continued.
Puan believes that the progress that Indonesia has can be the capital to bring this country forward. While what is still lacking, can be pursued through mutual cooperation and joint work.
We still have time to fulfill the historical call. To make today's policy that will guarantee a bright future for Indonesia. Dignity and great. And for the sake of prosperity and social justice for all Indonesian people," explained Puan.
At the end of her statement, Puan invited all elements of the nation to maintain the meaning of independence to stay alive in the midst of the people. He emphasized the importance of reviving the spirit of gotong royong as the main strength of the nation.
Dirgahayu the 80th Republic of Indonesia. May the spirit of independence always be the basis for presenting policies that favor the people, and become a guide to hope for the presence of a true independent nation," said Puan.

While attending the Proclamation ceremony for the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia at the Merdeka Palace, Puan wore Minangkabau traditional clothes, West Sumatra, known as Bundo Kanduang.

The use of Tingkolok is used as a female symbol as the owner of a gadang house. Puan's style is even more sweetened with Minang-style necklace and earrings.
After the Proclamation ceremony for the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia at the Merdeka Palace, Puan was seen taking pictures together with President Prabowo Subianto wearing traditional Demang clothes and Betawi Serong Ujung Fabrics.
