The Red And White Flag Flying On The RI-PNG Border, Minister Tito: Momentum For Reflection And Unifying The Nation

JAKARTA - The 6x12 meter Red and White Flag was flown during the seconds of the Proclamation which was carried out at the Skouw State Border Post (PLBN), Jayapura, Papua, Sunday, August 17, 2025. The raising of the Red and White flag which was flown over a lighthouse near the RI-PNG neutral zone marked the commemoration of the 80th Indonesian Independence Day.

The ceremony led by the Expert Group of the National Border Management Agency (BNPP) Lt. Gen. Retired Ali Bogra was attended by TNI-Polri personnel, officers on duty at PLBN Skouw and teachers and students.

Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian in his remarks read by the Expert Group of the National Border Management Agency (BNPP) Lt. Gen. Retired Ali Bogra said, as the Head of BNPP together with President Prabowo gave the highest appreciation and appreciation to all people at the border, who were also present at the Independence Ceremony at 15 Cross-Border Posts.

This presence is a commitment to safeguarding sovereignty, maintaining borders as part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

"Mr. President Prabowo reminded that the 80th anniversary of independence is not just a ceremonial event, but a reflection and unifying momentum of the nation where this year is eight decades of existence and independence this nation was built with the spirit of struggle, sacrifice of the soul and body of all the nation's children, so it is very appropriate if the theme of this commemoration is 'United Sovereign, People of Prosperous People, Advanced Indonesia'," said Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian.

Meanwhile, the Head of PLBN Skouw Ni Luh Puspita separately said that apart from flying large flags at the beacon on the RI-PNG border, a number of competitions and blood donors were also carried out.

"There are several competitions that have been carried out before the 80th Indonesian Independence Day ceremony which was also attended by PNG residents who live at the border," said Ni Luh Puspita.
