Megawati: Indonesian Independence Is Not A Gift
JAKARTA - The 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia and the General Chair of the PDI-P Party Megawati Soekarnoputri emphasized that Indonesia's independence was not a gift.
"The independence we enjoy is not a gift. Once again, it is not a gift," said Megawati when she was inspector of ceremonies at the PDIP Party School, Jakarta, Sunday.
Megawati explained that Indonesia's independence was the result of blood, sweat, and tears from the founding fathers of the nation to freedom fighters who sacrificed everything for the sake of the Red and White.
Therefore, he reminded all parties not to forget the services of heroes, as stated by the 1st President of the Republic of Indonesia Soekarno.
"Bung Karno, the proclaimer of our nation's father, once said 'a great nation is a nation that never forgets the services of its heroes'," he said.
In addition, he reminded PDIP cadres from Sabang to Merauke.

"I emphasize that our duty as PDI-P cadres is to keep the fire of independence lit. It has never been extinguished by the push for personal or group interests, does not waver by the temptation of power, and does not bow to politics that betrays its own people," he said.
Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia in 2025 has the theme "United Sovereign, People of Prosperous, Advanced Indonesia". The theme reflects the spirit of nationality that continues to be maintained as the foundation for moving forward to the future.
