Poso Rocked By An Earthquake With A Magnitude Of 6.0, BMKG: No Tsunami Potential

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 rocked the Poso area, Central Sulawesi on Sunday, at 05.38 WITA.

The BMKG website in Jakarta informed that the earthquake was centered at a sea depth of 20 km, to be precise 18 km northwest of Poso, with coordinates of 1.30 south latitude and 120.62 east longitude.

Despite the large magnitude of the magnitude, the BMKG stated that this earthquake did not have the potential for a tsunami. However, the public is advised to remain alert to the possibility of aftershocks.

BMKG also reminded residents to always pay attention to directions from local authorities, not to be provoked by irresponsible issues, and ensure safety by staying away from cracked buildings or prone to collapse.

Until now there have been no official reports regarding the impact of damage or casualties due to the earthquake.
