TikTok Updates Community Guidelines: New Rules For LIVE Creators, AI Content, And Commercial
JAKARTA - TikTok will update the Community Guidelines or Community Guidelines which are a reference for participation rules on the short video platform as well as standards in determining the content that appears on the For You Feed.
Although most revisions are only in the form of language simplification, there are several new points that are quite striking, particularly regarding rules for LIVE creators, commercial content, personalization of user experience, to the types of AI-based content allowed.
This change will take effect on September 13, 2025.
One part that gets a significant addition is the rules for TikTok LIVE creators. Now, creators are warned that they are responsible for everything that happens in their live broadcasts, including if they use third-party services such as real-time or voice-to-text translators to read audience comments. TikTok emphasizes that creators should supervise the service so as not to violate the rules indirectly.

In addition, there are new rules for commercial content. TikTok insists that all commercial content must be clearly disclosed. Furthermore, the company will reduce the visibility of content that directs users to buy products outside the platform on the market where TikTok Shop is available.
Another change exists in the search and comment system. If previously the guidelines only mentioned TikTok providing relevant 'search targets', it is now explained that search results and recommendations can be different for everyone.
The algorithm will adjust the results based on the search history and the viewing of each user. The same applies to the comments column, which is now privately sorted based on signals such as previous replies, number of likes, and user reports.
Meanwhile, parts about AI-based content are also experiencing simplification. If previously TikTok detailedly banned deepfake content featuring false authoritative sources, false crisis events, or public figures in misleading contexts such as being forced to provide support, now the rule is being replaced with a more concise language: TikTok does not allow content that enacts in terms of importance to the public or is harmful to individuals.
Interestingly, a special sentence about the AI endorsement ban was removed, raising speculation that TikTok could pave the way for AI-based support or advertising with the approval of celebrities in the future.
With this change, TikTok seems to want to simplify the rules, but at the same time strengthen control over commercial content, personal user experience, and open up new flexibility spaces for the use of AI.
