Ukrainian Soldiers On The Front Line Pessimists Of Trump-Putin Meeting Bring Peace

JAKARTA - As US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin headed for Alaska, Ukrainian commanders on the front lines of the war had low expectations of the meeting of the leaders.

"I don't expect any results from this meeting. They will negotiate, agree on something, but the results don't make sense. Russia can't be trusted. They promised one thing, but did something else," said Ukrainian Armed Forces officer Serhiy Tsehotskyi, who served in eastern Ukraine. reported by CNN, Friday, August 15.

Tsethotskyi also expressed his frustration at the US of putting all efforts into Putin in Alaska, which he said showed Trump views the Russian leader as a legitimate party, rather than a criminal of war or murder.

"There's no point in negotiating with Putin. We've been negotiating with him about Donbas for eight years and resulting in nothing," he said.

Tsethotskyi saw no desire from Russia to end the war, given what was happening on the front lines. Currently, Russia is said to be destroying their own people just to achieve the slightest result.

"They filled us with bodies to show they made it to the front line before negotiations started," he said.

Oleksandr assault battalion commander Nastenko said he believed "Putin is not ready to compromise."

"He doesn't care about the economic situation in his country or the loss and he will reject any compromise," he said. "I don't think this meeting will produce anything. Until one of us really feels like a losing party, no one will agree on anything," he continued.
