Midnight Raid At Batam Detention Center: Officers Can't Find Drugs, Only Cukur Knives
BATAM - Class IIA Batam State Detention Center (Rutan), Riau Islands, together with law enforcement officials (APH) from the TNI, Polri, BNN, and BIN held raids to prevent drug trafficking, cell phones, and illegal levies.
Batam Rutan Head Fajar Teguh Wibowo said the raid targeted a block containing six residential rooms for inmates.
"We do this raid as a preventive measure to maintain security, order, and prevent the circulation of prohibited goods in the detention center," said Fajar in Batam, Antara, Friday, August 15.
The raid took place Thursday, August 14 evening for one hour, from 20.00 WIB to 21.00 WIB. Joint officers thoroughly inspected the inmates' rooms. As a result, no prohibited items were found, only a beard shaving knife belonging to one of the inmates was found.
"Alhamdulillah, the results of the raid did not find prohibited objects. There are only beard shavings and items that should be used as garbage, but are still stored," he said.
Fajar explained that Batam detention center routinely conducts raids once a week with the National Police, while joint raids with APH have been carried out twice.
"We are following up on directions from the Director General of Corrections and the Minister to prevent potential disturbances in the detention center," he said.
In addition to room raids, officers also conducted urine tests on 25 inmates and five Batam detention center officers. All the results were negative.
"This activity is a form of joint commitment in realizing a correctional environment that is free from drugs, free from cellphones, and free from other prohibited items," said Fajar.
