Puan Praises Prabowo for Revocation of Raja Ampat Mining Permit and Island Dispute

JAKARTA - Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, praised President Prabowo Subianto's swift action in resolving the mining permit issue in Raja Empat and the island disputes in Aceh and North Sumatra shortly after his inauguration. He also praised the policy of purchasing farmers' unhusked rice at fair prices, and various other policies implemented through the Asta Cita program.

Puan expressed this praise while delivering a speech at the Joint Session of the DPR-DPD held at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, on Friday, August 15.

"On this auspicious occasion, allow us, the DPR RI, to express our appreciation for President Prabowo Subianto's initiative, which in a short time has resolved or responded quickly to a number of strategic issues that directly affect the interests of the people," said Puan.

According to Puan, these steps reflect the government's commitment to the people. However, Puan emphasized the importance of careful planning so that these policies are not only a quick response but also part of the government's regular performance.

"This swift response is commendable because it reflects the government's commitment to the people's interests. However, it would be better if these steps were the result of careful and thorough planning, so that they become part of the government's regular performance," she said.

Puan said that the people long for the government to resolve other issues beyond their reach. She hopes that other issues can be resolved with the same spirit: speed and impartiality.

"Going forward, the people certainly hope that the government can resolve other issues beyond their capabilities quickly. Our task is not only to discuss the people's hopes, but also to make them a reality," Puan stated.

The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture also reminded that power must be used to serve the people, not to intimidate or ignore them. Puan used an interesting analogy regarding the complexity of public decision-making.

"In exercising its power, the government must always be self-aware, because the true purpose of power is to serve, assist, and empower the people," she said.

"Power is not meant to intimidate the people, but rather to resolve their affairs, even though these matters are often complex, like a love triangle between aspirations, budgets, and regulations," Puan added.

However, according to Puan, no matter how complex the challenge, there is always a path to the best solution.

"However, no matter how complicated the 'love triangle' is, there is always a way to find the best solution for the nation and state. Even though it sometimes feels painful and heartbreaking, we must move on," Puan concluded.
