BMW 8 Series Farewell Edition Brings Classic Iconic Colors
JAKARTA - BMW will end production of the 8 Series next year, and to celebrate, the German manufacturer is launching a nostalgic limited edition.
According to information on the BMW USA website today, the farewell edition brought to Monterey Car Week is called the M850i Edition M Heritage, and it features stunning retro touches inspired by the original 8 Series from the 1990s.
Production of this special car is scheduled to begin in late 2025, with first deliveries planned for early next year.
This special edition is limited to just 500 units and is based on the M850i xDrive Gran Coupe. Its main attraction lies in the revived color options from the E31-generation 8 Series, which was produced from 1990 to 1999. Buyers can choose from five classic, eye-catching colors: Bright Red, Mauritius Blue, Cosmos Black, Oxford Green, and Daytona Violet.
In addition to the iconic color options, the Edition M Heritage also comes with exclusive features. Each unit comes with a carbon fiber roof adorned with tri-color M stripes and special 20-inch alloy wheels. The M Sport Professional package, usually an optional extra, is now standard. This package includes enhanced brakes, black calipers, and black exterior trim accents.
The interior is equally special. The M Sport seats are upholstered in Alcantara and black Merino leather with a diamond-stitched pattern. Alcantara also covers the headliner, dashboard, and door panels. The dashboard is finished in matte carbon fiber, while tri-color M stitching adorns various corners of the cabin. A cup holder cover and door plates bearing the inscription "M850i Edition M Heritage" and the number "1/500" emphasize its exclusivity.
Engine Performance and Price
Despite its retro look, the Edition M Heritage's mechanicals still boast the modern performance of the M850i xDrive Grand Coupe. Under the hood, a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine produces 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. With an eight-speed automatic transmission, the car can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.
BMW emphasized that there are no additional options for this model; all premium features are included as standard, including the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound audio system and the Driving Assistance Professional Package.
As reported by Motor1 on Friday, August 15, the price is US$131,575 (approximately IDR 2.1 billion) (including delivery).
