Manchester City Monitors Donnarumma, Ederson's Fate Is Increasingly Uncertain
JAKARTA - Manchester City is monitoring Gianluigi Donnarumma as a candidate to replace Ederson. This situation makes the future of the Brazilian goalkeeper uncertain.
In fact, The Citizens' preference is to keep Ederson at the Etihad Stadium even though Donnarumma is coming.
Speaking in June 2025 at the Club World Cup, Ederson also said his mind remained with the club when asked about his future.
However, most recently Manchester City has been captivated by Donnarumma and they have not closed the possibility to recruit the Italian player.
The problem now is that the deal will depend on Ederson's request to leave. Any club interested can bid according to its valuation.

So far, The Citizens have not been approached or received any contact from other clubs regarding the potential for Ederson's move.
Pep Guardiola actually also wants to keep Ederson, whose contract is one year remaining.
However, Manchester City will be forced to return to the transfer market if he expresses his desire to leave.
The 31-year-old has been linked to Galatasaray and clubs in the Saudi Arabian Pro League.
If the desire to leave Ederson gets stronger, Manchester City will obviously catch up with Donnarumma hard even though they have signed two goalkeepers this summer.
James Trafford has been re-signed from Burnley for 27 million pounds, while 33-year-old Marcus Bettinelli has also been brought in from Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Donnarumma doesn't seem to have a future at Paris Saint-Germain after he was dropped from the squad for the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham on Thursday, August 14, 2025, early morning WIB.
He also expressed his intention to leave Les Parisiens. The reason, PSG coach Luis Enrique said on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, that he wanted a goalkeeper with a different profile.
PSG also supported his decision to release Donnarumma for the 23-year-old who was recruited this summer from Lille, Lucas Chevalier.
In response, Donnarumma posted a post on social media saying that she was disappointed and heartbroken.
Apart from Manchester City, the 26-year-old who helped PSG win the 2024/2025 Champions League was also linked to Manchester United.
However, according to ESPN reports, the Red Devils insist that recruiting new goalkeepers is not their priority in the rest of the transfer market.
They once made a loan offer for Emiliano Martinez who was rejected by Aston Villa in early summer.
Manchester United is currently working on the sale of a number of players including Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Badminton Malacia, and Rasmus Hojlund. The funds raised from the sale are likely to be invested in new midfielders.
The Red Devils have spent more than 200 million to sign Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko, and are still interested in Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba.
