MPR Retraces Soekarno-Hatta's Exile Home, Bambang Pacul: The Rengasdengklok Incident Was a Meeting of Minds
JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Wuryanto stated that the visit by the MPR leadership to the exile home of Soekarno-Hatta in Rengasdengklok, Karawang, West Java, was reminiscent of a historic meeting of minds between the younger generation and the older generation.
He stated that the event, held on Wednesday, August 13th, was held to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.
"A discussion between the younger generation and the older generation. This is a meeting of minds," said Bambang Pacul, his nickname, after visiting the exile home in Rengasdengklok, Karawang, West Java, on Wednesday, as reported by Antara.
He stated that the visit by the MPR leadership to the exile home of Soekarno-Hatta in Rengasdengklok was filled with memories of the nation's historical events in the struggle for independence.
The dialogue between the young generation who exiled Soekarno-Hatta to Rengasdengklok was an effort to push for Indonesian independence, which ultimately resulted in the proclamation of Indonesian independence on August 17, 1945, in Jakarta.
"The Rengasdengklok incident was a result of dynamics, existing dialectics, and existing contradictions," said Pacul.
He also mentioned the role of Shodanco Singgih, a member of the Defenders of the Homeland (PETA), in the historic Rengasdengklok incident, who acted to secure dialogue between the younger and older generations in reaching an agreement regarding Indonesian independence.
"Pak Singgih, PETA Rengasdengklok, secured the deliberations between the younger and older generations," said the former Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives.
In addition to Bambang Pacul, other MPR leaders who also attended the visit to the exile house in Rengasdengklok included MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono (Ibas), Hidayat Nur Wahid (HNW), Abcandra Muhammad Akbar Supratman, and Rusdi Kirana.
