UGM Lecturer Becomes Suspect Of Corruption In The Purchase Of Fictitious Cocoa Seeds Detained By Central Java Prosecutor's Office

The Central Java High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) has arrested a suspect in the alleged corruption case in the purchase of cocoa beans by PT Pagilaran, who works as a lecturer at Gajah Mada University (UGM) Yogyakarta with the initials HU.

Assistant for Special Crimes at the Central Java Prosecutor's Office, Lukas Alexander Sinuraya, said the suspect was the Director of Business Development and Incubation at UGM Yogyakarta, which approved the payment of cocoa purchases which were allegedly fictitious worth IDR 7 billion in 2019.

"PT Pagilaran has submitted a disbursement of the cocoa procurement, while the suspect without checking has approved and processed the payment," he said in Semarang, Wednesday, which was confiscated by Antara.

He explained that the alleged corruption in the purchase of fictitious cocoa beans stems from the development of the Yogyakarta UGM Business and Incubation with PT Pagilaran for Cocoa Teaching and Learning Industry (CTLI).

PT Pagilaran is a company owned by UGM as the manager of a tea factory and plantation located in Batang Regency.

PT Pagilaran then submitted a disbursement of the cocoa seed procurement contract to UGM using incorrect documents.

"The cocoa beans purchased were never sent to CTLI UGM," he added.

The suspect HU was detained for the next 20 days at the Semarang Detention Center.

In this case, the prosecutor's office has also named the former President Director of PT Pagilaran, RG, as a suspect in the case.

For their actions, the suspects were charged with Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended and supplemented by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption.
