JAKARTA - The Provincial Government of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has prepared anticipatory and intervention steps to deal with droughts that hit several districts due to the long dry season without rain for more than two months.
"We have anticipated drought areas through BPBD (Regional Disaster Management Agency). It is already in the plan and we will intervene immediately," said NTB Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal after attending the red and white flag distribution movement at Teras Udayana, Mataram City, Wednesday, August 13.
Previously, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that two districts in NTB had drought alert status. Lape and Rhee sub-districts in Sumbawa Regency experienced extreme drought with days without rain reaching 61 to 77 days. Meanwhile, Wawo District in Bima Regency experienced 75 days without rain.
This drought alert status is a real signal of the threat of a water crisis that can disrupt the daily activities of residents and the agricultural sector.
On the basis of August 2025 (1 10 August), BMKG noted that rainfall in all areas of NTB is generally in the low category, which is 050 millimeters per basis. Meanwhile, the chance of rain on the second basis of August (11 20 August) is estimated to be less than 10 percent throughout the NTB region.

Iqbal emphasized that the government had prepared a budget to deal with drought. "We prepare a budget based on needs. As long as the budget is still in progress, we use the running budget," he said.
Based on InaRISK's study, NTB is an area with a moderate to high risk index for drought. BPBD took steps to distribute clean water using tanks and construct bore wells to help affected residents.
